Description
Every call to the Claude in Chrome navigate tool fails with the error Navigation to this domain is not allowed, regardless of the target domain (reproduced against multiple unrelated sites, not just one). list_connected_browsers correctly shows exactly one local, connected browser, so the extension believes it is connected — the failure happens specifically on navigate.
Environment
- Windows 11 Pro
- Claude desktop app (Code tab)
Steps to reproduce
- Open a Claude Code session in the desktop app with browser tools available.
- Call the Claude in Chrome
navigatetool with any URL (e.g.https://example.com/). - Observe the error:
Navigation to this domain is not allowed.
This reproduces on a brand new tab, a brand new tab group, and across multiple different target domains — not specific to one site.
What I've already tried (none resolved it)
- Reloaded the Claude in Chrome extension from
chrome://extensions/ - Fully restarted Chrome and re-authenticated
- Force-killed the Claude desktop app process via Task Manager and restarted it (waited ~1 minute before reopening)
- Completely uninstalled and reinstalled the Claude in Chrome extension, resulting in a fresh device pairing (
list_connected_browsersshows a newdeviceIdand freshconnectedAttimestamp each time) - Checked local Claude Code permission config (
settings.local.json) —mcp__claude-in-chrome__navigateis explicitly present in theallowlist, so this isn't a local permission-file denial - Opened the Claude side panel directly inside Chrome to check for a pending approval/consent prompt — none found
Expected behavior
navigate should successfully load the requested URL given a connected, local browser.
Actual behavior
navigate always returns Navigation to this domain is not allowed, for every domain tried, across fresh installs/pairings.
