Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

Claude for Windows 1.49585.0 (Store/MSIX build, package Claude_pzs8sxrjxfjjc), Windows 11 Pro 25H2. While recovering from the KB5124008 Plan9 fault (#92984), used Settings > debug menu > "Delete Cowork VM Sessions and Restart". The dialog returned "EACCES: permission denied, unlink 'C:\Users\HP\AppData\Roaming\Claude\local-agent-mode-sessions\<id>\latest'" and nothing else. In fact the folder LocalCache\Roaming\Claude\local-agent-mode-sessions had already been removed and recreated empty: scheduled-tasks.json went from 46 tasks to an empty list, and every local chat transcript since February was gone; the Scheduled page then showed "No scheduled tasks yet". The error path names AppData\Roaming, which does not exist on the MSIX build; the real folder is under LocalCache\Roaming. Recovered from a Windows restore-point shadow copy (vssadmin list shadows, mklink to the shadow, robocopy).

Asks: (1) the menu item should say it removes scheduled-task state and chat history, or should not touch them; (2) a failed deletion should report what was already removed; (3) the MSIX path mismatch should be fixed in the error text.

What Should Happen?

The debug menu item should behave predictably and safely. Either it should state clearly, before it runs, that it removes scheduled-task state (scheduled-tasks.json) and local chat history, or it should not touch those at all. A failure part way through should report what was already removed, not only a single EACCES on the 'latest' file. And the error text should name the real MSIX path (LocalCache\Roaming), not AppData\Roaming, which does not exist on the Store build.

Error Messages/Logs

EACCES: permission denied, unlink 'C:\Users\HP\AppData\Roaming\Claude\local-agent-mode-sessions\<id>\latest'

Steps to Reproduce

  1. On the Windows MSIX (Microsoft Store) build of Claude for Windows (1.49585.0, package Claude_pzs8sxrjxfjjc), open Settings and the debug menu.
  2. Click "Delete Cowork VM Sessions and Restart".
  3. Observe the dialog reports only: EACCES: permission denied, unlink 'C:\Users\HP\AppData\Roaming\Claude\local-agent-mode-sessions\<id>\latest'.
  4. Inspect the real folder under LocalCache\Roaming\Claude\local-agent-mode-sessions: it has been removed and recreated empty. scheduled-tasks.json is now an empty list (was 46 tasks) and local chat transcripts since February are gone. The Scheduled page shows "No scheduled tasks yet".

Note: this destroys scheduler state and local chat history, so reproduce only on a machine where that loss is acceptable.

Additional Information

Windows 11 Pro 25H2. The app's AppData\Roaming paths resolve under AppData\Local\Packages\Claude_pzs8sxrjxfjjc\LocalCache\Roaming, which is why the error text's path does not exist while the real folder does.

Related, but distinct, issues (all Windows/MSIX local-agent-mode-sessions data loss): #93385 and #93247 are triggered by Cowork VM auto-repair and profile recreation during an update, not by a deliberate menu action. This report is specifically about the manual "Delete Cowork VM Sessions and Restart" debug-menu item. Context: #92984 (the KB5124008 Plan9 fault that led to using the debug menu in the first place).
