Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

On macOS, Shift-Control-Command-4 captures a screenshot directly to the clipboard (as opposed to Shift-Command-4, which saves a file to disk). I expected to be able to paste that clipboard image (Cmd+V) directly into the Claude message input and have it appear as an attached image, the way it works in many other chat apps (Slack, iMessage, ChatGPT, etc.).

Instead, pasting does nothing — the image does not attach to the message. The only way I've found to send a screenshot is:

Take the screenshot with Shift-Command-4 (saves a .png to Desktop)
Click the attach/upload button and manually select that file
Delete the leftover file from my Desktop afterward

This is a multi-step workaround for something that should be a single paste action.

What Should Happen?

Expected: The screenshot image appears as an attachment in the message, same as attaching a file.

Error Messages/Logs

Actual: Nothing happens — no image, no error, no visible feedback.

Steps to Reproduce

Steps to reproduce:

Take a screenshot with Shift-Control-Command-4 (copies to clipboard, no file saved)
Click into the Claude message box
Press Cmd+V

Additional Information

Additional context: A teammate using a non-Mac OS with an equivalent "screenshot to clipboard" tool (rather than to file) reported the same gap — they'd also prefer to paste directly rather than save-then-attach.
