Interactive prompt paste (Ctrl+V / right-click) broken after update — worked reliably for weeks, stopped immediately post-update
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
Paste into Claude Code's interactive chat prompt (Ctrl+V, Ctrl+Shift+V, and right-click paste) stopped working entirely, immediately following an in-session update ("Update installed · Restart to update" notification, followed by a restart). This affects plain text paste, not just images — including single short lines of plain text, ruling out content size or type as the cause. A message flashes on paste attempt: "no image found in clipboard" — even when the clipboard contains plain text, not an image.
What Should Happen?
Plain text paste into the interactive prompt should work as it did reliably for weeks prior, including the several hours immediately before this update.
Error Messages/Logs
"no image found in clipboard" (flashes briefly on every paste attempt, regardless of actual clipboard content type)
Steps to Reproduce
- Have Claude Code running an interactive session with paste working normally (confirmed working for large multi-paragraph pastes over several hours prior to this).
- Receive in-session "Update installed · Restart to update" notification; restart Claude Code as prompted.
- Copy any plain text to clipboard (tested with both long multi-paragraph blocks and a single short sentence).
- Attempt to paste into the interactive prompt via Ctrl+V, Ctrl+Shift+V, or right-click paste.
- Observe: "no image found in clipboard" flashes; no paste occurs.
Diagnostics already performed:
- Confirmed clipboard genuinely contained plain text (same clipboard content pasted successfully elsewhere:
nanoin the same SSH session, and other applications). - Confirmed not a length/complexity issue — single short sentence failed identically to long multi-paragraph blocks.
- Rebooted the Windows host entirely — no change.
- Confirmed underlying terminal/shell paste works fine: a bash heredoc (
$(cat <<'EOF' ... EOF)) pasted successfully into a plain shell prompt — isolating the bug specifically to Claude Code's own interactive-prompt paste handling, not the OS, terminal emulator, or SSH session itself. - Headless mode (
claude -p "...") does not exhibit the bug, since it bypasses the interactive prompt's input handling entirely — but headless mode cannot answer interactive permission prompts, limiting it as a full workaround.

Additional Information
Unusual environment worth noting: Claude Code is running on a Raspberry Pi 5 (Debian 13 "Trixie", ARM64), accessed via SSH from a Windows 11 PC using Windows Terminal/PowerShell. The bug affects paste in this SSH-based interactive session specifically — not tested on a native Windows or macOS Claude Code install for comparison.
