[Retracted] Not a Claude Code bug: session drops were caused by a test suite deleting credentials via an inherited CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR

Retracted (2026-09-10) — not a Claude Code bug. See the correction comment below.

The session drops this issue originally described (the original text is kept in its edit history) were not caused by CPU saturation, and the credentials were not left intact. The sessions ran with CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR pointing at a per-account directory; a third-party test suite run from inside one of them inherited the variable and deleted and rewrote that directory's credentials, logging every session on the account out. The fix for that test suite is stablyai/orca#19889.
