What happens

showThinkingSummaries is set to false in ~/.claude/settings.json, but extended thinking / reasoning blocks are still rendered inline in every assistant response.

settings.json

{
  "theme": "auto",
  "agentPushNotifEnabled": false,
  "showThinkingSummaries": false
}

Expected

No thinking summaries in the transcript.

Actual

Every response shows the reasoning between tool calls. On a long task this is the bulk of what ends up on screen.

Notes

  • Desktop app, Code tab
  • Windows 11 Pro (26200)
  • Restarting the app does not help
  • Has been happening for months, across versions
  • No equivalent toggle exists in the app's settings panel, so there is no way to turn it off from the UI either
