What's Wrong?
Subject: Claude Code login fails — "missing user:profile scope" / OAuth token not granting correct access
Description:
I'm unable to authenticate Claude Code with my Anthropic Console account. Repeated /login attempts complete the browser auth flow, but the terminal rejects the returned code with "OAuth error: Invalid code. Please make sure the full code was copied" — this happens even with carefully copied, freshly issued codes (triple-click selected, pasted immediately, no delay).
Separately, the session has also thrown: Login expired · Please run /login, Remote Control disconnected — OAuth token unavailable, and Goal cleared after an unrecoverable error (authentication failed) — the last of which appears to have wiped a queued multi-step task.
claude doctor output:
Running: native (2.1.252)
Commit: c0778c45886d
Platform: win32-x64
Path: C:\Users\sduth\.local\bin\claude.exe
Config install method: native
Search: OK (bundled)
Auto-updates: enabled
Auto-update channel: latest
Last update attempt: success → 2.1.252 (2026-08-31)
Managed settings (remote): not fetched — no usable credentials for the settings fetch
Remote Control
Remote Control requires a claude.ai subscription. Run claude auth login to sign in with your claude.ai account.
- Not signed in to claude.ai
- claude.ai subscription auth not active
- Sign-in is missing the user:profile scope
No installation issues found.
What I've tried:
Multiple fresh /login attempts, selecting "Anthropic Console account"
Careful re-copy of the OAuth code each time (ruling out truncation/whitespace)
claude doctor — confirms no local installation issues; problem isolated to auth/token scope
Environment: Windows, native install, Claude Code 2.1.252
Ask: The doctor output specifically flags the token as missing the user:profile scope. Since the local install is clean, this looks like a server-side/token-issuance issue rather than something fixable on my end. Please advise or fix.
What Should Happen?
After completing the OAuth flow and entering the code, Claude Code should authenticate successfully and grant a session with the correct scopes.
Error Messages/Logs

Steps to Reproduce
- Run
claudein terminal on Windows - Run
/login - Select "Anthropic Console account"
- Complete sign-in in browser, receive code
- Copy code carefully (triple-click to avoid whitespace/truncation), paste into terminal
- Terminal rejects it: "OAuth error: Invalid code. Please make sure the full code was copied"
- Repeated fresh attempts produce the same result

Additional Information
Session also showed "Remote Control disconnected — OAuth token unavailable" and a queued background task's goal was cleared due to the repeated auth failures.
