[Bug] Claude Code hangs indefinitely with worktree probe timeout in specific project directory
Bug Description
Body:
Claude Code hangs indefinitely on any prompt in one specific project directory. The same account and machine work normally in other directories.
The request is never issued. /usage after ~2 minutes of a hanging hello? in a fresh session:
Total duration (API): 0s
Usage: 0 input, 0 output, 0 cache read, 0 cache write
Debug log shows the client preparing the message and then going silent — only heartbeats and presence pulses after:
21:06:22.745 [DEBUG] Sending 23 skills via attachment (initial)
21:06:22.776 [DEBUG] [remote-bridge] Sending 1 message(s)
21:06:24.388 [DEBUG] [presence ...] terminal focus → blurred
(nothing further)
Possibly related, appears in every session in this directory:
[bridge:worktree] collectWorktreeState failed: worktree probe timed out
[remote-bridge] worktree_state → <other-org>/<other-repo>: null
The named repo is a different project I collaborate on, not the directory I'm running in.
Reproduces across: v2.1.259 and v2.1.260, Haiku 4.5 and Sonnet 5, fresh sessions with empty context.
Ruled out: slash commands work (local, no API); a different directory on the same machine works; MCP servers all authenticated; plugin with 375 skills disabled (skill payload dropped 90k→10k chars); 0 hooks in registry; no quota issue (6% session, 26% weekly); no open incidents on status.claude.com; project settings.local.json contains only a Bash permission allowlist.
Env: macOS, native install at ~/.local/bin/claude, Claude Pro.
Replace the repo placeholder with the real name or leave it redacted — your call, it's your friend's project. That worktree line is the detail I'd most want them to look at, since it's the only thing in the logs pointing at cross-project state.
