Cross-session peer messages collapse to a one-line preview since 2.1.247
Since 2.1.247, an inbound cross-session peer message is rendered in the transcript as a one-line preview instead of the full body. In 2.1.228 the full message was shown inline.
The full body is the part that matters. I've caught several cases of Claude reaching a wrong conclusion purely because the whole message was visible in the transcript. A one-line stub hides exactly the content that needs review.
Ctrl+O isn't a substitute: it expands everything, so the message body lands in the same stream as every tool call and file edit and gets buried in execution noise.
There's no config workaround — crossSessionInbound only controls delivery, not display. I pinned to 2.1.246 for a few days, but Fable 5.1 requires a newer version, so downgrading isn't a viable workaround either. Right now there's no way to read cross-session messages in full without scrolling the entire execution log.
Request
Any one of these would resolve it:
- Make inline full-body rendering the default again (as in 2.1.228).
- Add a setting to choose inline vs. collapsed preview.
- Add a messages-only view that shows peer messages in full, without tool calls and file edits.
Environment
- Claude Code 2.1.258 (regression first observed in 2.1.247; 2.1.246 is the last good version)
- macOS 26.5, terminal
