Desktop app shows an unlabeled banner: "This tab shows a single file and can't follow links"

Description

While using the Claude Code desktop app, a banner notification repeatedly appears with the text:

This tab shows a single file and can't follow links. Right-click or press Shift+F10 on the link to open it in your browser.

The user was using the desktop app (not the CLI or VS Code extension) when this appeared. It seems to show up when a tab/pane is displaying a single local file that contains a link, and link-following is restricted in that context.

Problem

There doesn't appear to be a way to dismiss or disable this banner permanently. It reappears repeatedly during normal use, which is disruptive.

Request

  • Please confirm what feature/tab type triggers this banner (a file-preview pane displaying a single file rather than a full workspace/site, is our best guess).
  • Consider adding a setting to suppress this banner, or making it appear less intrusively (e.g. a one-time dismiss instead of recurring).

Environment

  • Windows 11
  • Claude Code desktop app

Happy to provide more repro details if a maintainer can point out what specific action reliably triggers this.

Additional detail from the reporter:

  • Seen this banner 10+ times, appearing repeatedly during general use of the desktop app.
  • It shows up as a toast in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  • No single identifiable trigger action — it seems to pop up intermittently while doing various kinds of work in the app, not tied to one specific click or feature the user can pinpoint.

Best guess (unconfirmed): it may be tied to links that appear in the assistant's own responses (e.g. markdown file links) being auto-previewed/resolved by the desktop app in a restricted single-file context, but the reporter can't consistently reproduce it on demand — it just recurs during normal sessions.

More detail — the banner's own suggested remediation doesn't work, which makes this worse than just cosmetic noise:

  • The reporter tried Shift+F10 as the banner instructs — nothing happens.
  • Right-clicking on/near the toast does not bring up any context menu to open a link or dismiss it, and there's no visible clickable link inside the toast itself to target.
  • There is no "X"/dismiss control on the toast, and no setting found anywhere to disable it.
  • If this banner exists because some action is genuinely being blocked, that block isn't being surfaced anywhere actionable (e.g. in the chat/conversation UI) — it just fires as a transient bottom-right notification with no way to act on it or turn it off.

So right now this is a notification that (a) can't be dismissed, (b) can't be acted on via its own stated instructions, and (c) doesn't explain what specifically triggered it. That combination is what makes it disruptive on repeat (10+ times) rather than a one-off.

Possible trigger (unconfirmed guess from the reporter, not verified):

It may be related to copying something from a website inside the Brave browser (Ctrl+C) and pasting it into the Claude Code chat input (Ctrl+V). If the copied content includes a link, that might be what triggers the "single file, can't follow links" banner — possibly the pasted content gets rendered in some single-file/restricted preview context.

Not confirmed — the reporter hasn't been able to reliably reproduce it on demand, this is just the best guess based on what they were doing around the times it appeared.
