Feature request: expose a command to open the session picker in the VS Code extension

Extension: Claude Code for VS Code, version anthropic.claude-code-2.1.251

Summary

Please add a registered VS Code command that opens the extension's own session
picker / history dialog
(the "Search sessions…" dropdown behind the clock/history
icon in the panel toolbar), so it can be bound to a keyboard shortcut.

Today that dialog can only be opened by clicking the history icon in the webview
toolbar. There is no way to trigger it from the keyboard.

Why

Switching between sessions is a frequent action, and the mouse-only entry point
is a friction point for keyboard-driven users. A bindable command would let us put
it on a shortcut (e.g. cmd+r) alongside the extension's other keybindings.

What I found (why this isn't currently possible)

  • The session dialog is rendered inside the webview (webview/index.js contains

the "Search sessions…" component). The clock/history and "+" toolbar icons are
webview-internal and don't map to any contributed menu command.

  • The extension registers no command for opening it. The full set of registered

commands (from extension.js) has no session-picker command; the closest is
claude-vscode.reopenClosedSession (reopens the last closed session — not a
picker).

  • The webview has no internal keyboard shortcut for it either.
  • workbench.action.chat.pickAgentSession is VS Code's built-in chat/agent

session picker and is unrelated — the extension has no chat-session-provider
integration (extension.js never references the chat-session API), so that
command does not open Claude Code's sessions.

Proposed change

  • Add a command such as claude-vscode.pickSession (or showSessions) that opens

the session picker dialog.

  • Make it available in the Command Palette and bindable via keybindings.
  • Ideally guard/enable it with the extension's existing focus context, e.g.

activeWebviewPanelId == 'claudeVSCodePanel' || claude-vscode.sideBarActive
(the same when used by claude-vscode.toggleFocusView).

  • Optionally ship a default keybinding.

Thanks!
