Problem Statement

Claude Desktop sometimes crashes, and needs to be uninstalled and reinstalled. All sessions disappear.

There is a workaround. They can be recovered via Claude Code, and then continued into Claude Desktop.

However, it seems that a Restore Session or Load Session option could exist easily

Proposed Solution

It seems that a Restore Session or Load Session option could exist easily.

This could be an option right under +New.

Use Case Example

  1. I'm working on many Claude Desktop sessions, over the course of 2-6 weeks.
  2. Claude Desktop crashes.
  3. The app no longer responds and must be uninstalled and reinstalled.
  4. After installation, all previous sessions are gone.
  5. workaround: from command prompt, use claude -c, and resume into \desktop
  6. Ideally: from reinstalled Claude Desktop > Restore Session (select folder)
  7. ... Which conversation would you like to resume?
