[BUG] User input becomes unreadable when working with a light background

Resolved 💬 3 comments Opened Oct 1, 2025 by chrisbarnes-shopify Closed Oct 5, 2025

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

After the latest Claude update, my own inputs (black on white background) become unreadable as soon as I hit return. The background is turned to some dark gray -- which would be a fine highlight for a dark color profile, but makes the text unreadable with a light profile. (I'm running Iterm2 on a mac, but the colors see to be set within Claude, not using Iterm profile defaults). Please make this readable for people using light profiles, or allow users to configure it. Claude says its version is: I'm powered by Claude Sonnet 4.5 (model ID: claude-sonnet-4-5-20250929).

My knowledge cutoff is January 2025.

What Should Happen?

Users commands should be rendered in a way that is readable if the user window has a light profile.
