[BUG] Claude Code deletes what I'm typing to ask me for feedback on the current session

  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

When I was typing a long multi-paragraph message (which I will never do directly in the CLI again), before I pressed enter to send it, Claude interrupted me to ask for feedback on how the current session is going. I selected "0" for dismiss, and what I was typing disappeared and could not be recovered by pressing arrow or inspecting the command history. The multiple paragraphs were lost and unrecoverable.

What Should Happen?

Claude shouldn't forget or delete carefully written paragraphs from the user to ask for feedback, or really ever, unless the user presses Ctrl-K or similar.

Error Messages/Logs

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Start typing a few paragraphs, but don't submit yet
  2. Have bad luck
  3. Claude asks you for feedback on the current session (choices are 0, 1, 2 or 3)
  4. You type "0" for dismiss
  5. Your paragraphs are gone
