What's Wrong?

Windows: Claude Desktop does not persist window size/position between launches

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Desktop

Environment

  • OS: Windows 11 Pro
  • App: Claude Desktop
  • App version: Claude 1.25927.0 (003700) 2026-08-04T05:34:55.000Z
  • Monitor setup: multiple monitors, display scaling 100%

What's Wrong?
Claude Desktop does not remember its window size or position between launches. Standard native Windows applications (Explorer, Chrome, Notepad, and most third-party apps) restore their last window size/position automatically on the next launch — this is normal OS-level window state behavior. Claude Desktop instead resets to a default size every time it's closed and reopened.

Test steps

  1. Open Claude Desktop.
  2. Resize the window to a custom width/height 90% of window
  3. Close app fully (not minimize).
  4. Reopen Claude Desktop.
  5. Observed: window opens at default size instead of the previously set size.

Expected Behavior
The window should reopen at the same size and position it was in when last closed, consistent with standard Windows window-state persistence.

Actual Behavior
The window resets to a default size on every launch, requiring the user to manually resize/reposition it each time.

Additional Notes

  • Other applications on the same machine correctly persist size/position across launches — this appears specific to Claude Desktop.

Impact
Repeated friction point: requires manually resizing the window every time the app is launched.

What Should Happen?

Claude should be able to save last window size, not default to original size.
