What's Wrong?
When selecting Fable 5 via /model, I get this message:
"Fable 5 runs on usage credits, purchased separately from your plan."
But when I go to the settings screen, it says:
"Fable 5 is still included in your Max plan. If you see a prompt to set up
usage credits, please restart Claude Code."
I'm on a Max plan and have fully restarted Claude Code multiple times
(not just re-run /model, but closed and reopened the terminal/app),
and the same contradictory messages keep appearing. /model keeps
falling back to "Kept model as Sonnet 5".
- claude --version: 2.1.218
- Plan: Max

You just need to run /login again.
Hi! I managed to fix it using the following method:
I signed out of and back into my account on Claude Desktop and used the Fable 5 model to perform a task without any CLI terminal open; when I opened the CLI again, the model was available.
For anyone looking for a solution and you are using Claude Code Extension for Visual Studio Code, or using the Claude Code CLI. You just need to use /login to login again and it works.
You also need a fresh session to do make Fable work, if you were mid session then you can just fork the conversation or something.
