Bug: Claude Desktop App Crashes in Loop When Accessing Chat with HTML Artifact

Description

The Claude Desktop app enters a continuous crash/restart cycle when attempting to access a specific chat containing an HTML artifact. The app becomes completely unusable for that chat, restarting every second indefinitely.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create HTML artifact in Claude Desktop app (in this case, a commission calculator)
  2. Navigate away from the chat
  3. Return to the chat containing the HTML artifact
  4. App immediately begins crash/restart loop

Expected Behavior

Chat should load normally and display HTML artifact without affecting app stability.

Actual Behavior

Desktop app crashes and restarts continuously (every ~1 second) making the chat completely inaccessible.

Environment

  • App: Claude Desktop App
  • Platform: Windows 64-bit (x64-based processor)
  • Device: DESKTOP-70CS90I
  • Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9750H CPU @ 2.60GHz
  • RAM: 32.0 GB (31.7 GB usable)
  • Current System Load: 68% memory usage, 18% CPU usage
  • App Version: [Version not specified - check Help > About in app]
  • Affected Feature: HTML artifact rendering

Impact

  • Severity: Medium
  • Scope: Isolated to specific chat with HTML artifact
  • Workaround: Other chats function normally; web version is unaffected

Claude's Additional Context & Suggestions

  • Issue suggests HTML artifacts are not properly sandboxed in desktop app
  • Problematic HTML was for a commission calculator project
  • Other chats remain fully functional
  • Points to potential renderer vulnerability where user HTML can destabilize the entire application
