What Should Happen?

Error Messages/Logs

Steps to Reproduce

Thanks for the detailed report! I tried to reproduce this on the current public release (2.1.233) on Linux.

Steps I ran: a small repo of ~10 files each containing TODO, then asked the agent to search for TODO and read every matching file one-by-one with no text between the tool calls.

Result: no (empty) rows appeared. The consecutive search/read actions are grouped into a single collapsed summary line (e.g. Searched for 1 pattern, read 10 files), which is the merge behavior you were expecting. Expanding the transcript with Ctrl+O shows a clean list of the individual Read actions, again with no empty placeholder rows.

This looks fixed in a recent release. Changelog: https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md

Closing — please reply to reopen if you still see (empty) rows on 2.1.233 or newer, and include your exact version and terminal.

I think the (empty) rows just happened because I was using a gateway with
Anthropic models instead of using a Pro/Max account. But thanks!
