[BUG] GCP Vertex has made a WebSearch tool available for Claude models as of 17th September, but Claude Code can't see it

After posting this I learned that its advertised roll out was delayed from 15th September to 22nd September by GCP without telling anyone (Source: GCP Support).

That said, I still have this problem even though it's meant to now be available.

Well, GCP are certainly making me look silly posting this bug. Support this morning says release is delayed "a few more days". I think I should close and reopen this if it doesn't work after it's actually launched! 🤞🏻

@henricook Have you gotten any updates regarding this topic? We can still not see that GCP Vertex has made WebSearch tool available for Claude models.

@ingvaldsen I'm about to poke GCP support again. The last they told me was that it "might need a few more days" on 23rd September. I'll come back and tell you what they say!

It's pretty odd that they send out such a big announcement email about it but then don't keep updating people via the same mechanism, or a release note, or something.

@henricook Thanks for following this up. It is strange with such a big announcement, and then go into complete silence and without any status update.
