[BUG] Anomalous token consumption on Claude.ai web + Desktop — no requests made — July 5 2026

What's Wrong?

Platform: Claude.ai Web + Claude Desktop (no Claude Code)
Plan: Max 20x
Date: July 5, 2026 — 12:00 PM Peru time (17:00 UTC)

Significant token consumption occurred with zero interaction
on my part. No prompts, no requests, no active sessions.
Account went near-limit without any input from me.

Impact: Account throttled from Monday to Saturday reset.
5 full working days blocked.

What Should Happen?

Token consumption should only occur when the user
actively submits a request. Background or phantom
consumption with no user input should not be possible.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Log into Claude.ai (web) with existing Pro/Max account
2. Do NOT send any message or start any session
3. Open Claude Desktop with the same account (or remain

logged in from previous session)

1. Wait — no interaction performed
2. Check usage dashboard (Settings → Usage)
3. Observe: significant token consumption recorded

on July 5, 2026 at ~12:00 PM Peru time (17:00 UTC)
with zero user-initiated requests

Note: Issue affects Claude.ai Web + Claude Desktop
(not Claude Code). Shared token pool depleted
without any prompts submitted.
