[BUG] Can't type dollar, curly braces, pipe etc in Claude Code

Resolved 💬 3 comments Opened Sep 8, 2025 by fsc-eriker Closed Sep 8, 2025

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

At the Claude Code prompt in Terminal on my Mac, when I type { it is rendered as a round parenthesis (. Similarly } renders as ). I cannot type [ or ] or | or $ at all; they produce no output. If I switch to a different window, all these keystrokes work normally.

This is with a Swedish keyboard, where these characters require me to use the Option modifier. (For example, { is shift-option-8.)

For what it's worth, I also cannot type a bullet character • which is on option-Q both on the US keyboard and on the Swedish keyboard.

I had not run /terminal-setup but I have now; this did not make a difference.

What Should Happen?

All keybinding should work the same inside Claude Code as outside.

Error Messages/Logs

Steps to Reproduce

Attempt to use any of these characters in a Claude prompt.

_Maybe_ this requires you to have a non-US keyboard layout, or even specifically a Swedish keyboard layout.
