What's Wrong?

Opus 4.8 missing from /model picker in CLI and VS Code extension
Works fine in the desktop app (same Accenture enterprise account)
Tried versions 2.1.196, 2.1.197, 2.1.198 — all affected
settings.json model override to claude-opus-4-8 is also ignored (still reports Sonnet)

Was workign as of last night/this morning, but not now.

What Should Happen?

I should be able to pick opus 4.8

same issue here, can only see Sonnet and Haiku. Fable is still disabled. No signs of Opus, but can see it in browser. Enterprise account.

Same problem here with v2.1.198. Enterprise account. Logging out and back in does not help.

Followup: Change model to 'opus' in managed settings JSON will make Opus the starting model and Opus will appear in the model picker. However, changing the model away from Opus in the model picker will then make it disappear from subsequent model picker dialogs.

Claude Code in Desktop is not affected by this problem. (But also does not respect managed settings JSON.)

Context:

  • Our organization sets Sonnet as a default model -- intended for Chat, Cowork, and Office Agents. The admin UI currently shows that applies to Claude Code as well, but I don't think it used to.
  • Our organization sets default model and effortLevel for Claude Code using managed settings
  • There is no role-based default set

Desired outcome:

  • All eligible model families always visible in model picker, regardless of org/role/Anthropic defaults. We would prefer to see a model twice -- once as a default and once as a standalone -- than have models disappear due to org defaults.
  • Claude Code managed settings JSON (including effortLevel) applies to CLI and Desktop Code, overriding org-wide default model

Opus is back in the model picker as of v2.1.200
