Desktop: "Add from a repository" (custom plugin marketplace) gone from "+" — now opens Directory only (1.15962.1)
Summary
On Claude for Windows, the + next to Personal plugins (Customize → Plugins) used to open a menu with Add marketplace → Add from a repository, letting me sync a custom plugin marketplace from a GitHub repo. As of roughly the last week that option is gone: the + (its tooltip is now "Browse plugins") opens the Directory modal directly — only Anthropic and Partners tabs, a search box, and Filter/Sort. There is no "Add from a repository" / git URL option anywhere in that modal.
Version
Claude for Windows 1.15962.1 (1e236d) — the June 25 2026 build.
Personal account (not Team/Enterprise, no managed settings/strictKnownMarketplaces).
Expected
The help article still documents the option:
https://support.claude.com/en/articles/13837440-use-plugins-in-claude
In Personal plugins, click "+" → "Add marketplace" → "Add from a repository" to sync a marketplace from a GitHub repository or git URL.
Actual
The + opens the Directory (Anthropic / Partners tabs only). There is no way to add a custom GitHub marketplace from the Desktop UI.
Repro
- Customize → Plugins
- Click + next to "Personal plugins"
- Directory modal opens — no "Add from a repository" option
Notes
- This worked ~1 week ago; I successfully added a custom GitHub marketplace then.
- No changelog entry for 1.15962.0 / 1.15962.1 mentions removing or changing this — the changelog is otherwise granular (it documents things like "a message's action buttons are now a single Tab stop").
- The help doc still describes the option, so the doc and the build now disagree — this looks like a regression or an unannounced change rather than a documented removal.
- Workaround: the Claude Code CLI
/plugin marketplace add owner/repostill works.
