[Bug] CLI Unresponsive with No Progress Indication

Bug Description
the interface just suddenly dies. Don't know when exactly this started happening but it's super annoying now as there is almost zero indication │
│ that things are "hung". I can say "continue" and it does, but it's just sitting there doing nothing. Further, the ui seems to have just frozen stuff out at times. │
│ No input accepted, etc. no visual indication it's working. then time passes and low and behold it was working. Yes, I can distinguish between the two and understand │
│ how they can both "seem" the same, but one will complete in 30 seconds, theother can go all night and is clearly stuck until I poke at it to continue
