Checkpointing Support in Claude Code

Summary

Is there built-in checkpointing functionality in Claude Code similar to what's available in Cline or GitHub Copilot? Looking for ways to save and restore development progress at specific points.

Context

I'm working on a project using Claude Code and would like to understand if there are features for:

  • Saving current state/progress at specific milestones
  • Rolling back to previous checkpoints if needed
  • Managing different development branches or versions within Claude Code

Current Behavior

Currently using Claude Code for development tasks, but haven't found clear documentation about checkpointing features.

Desired Behavior

Ideally looking for:

  • [ ] Ability to create named checkpoints during development
  • [ ] Easy restoration to previous checkpoints
  • [ ] Visual indication of available checkpoints
  • [ ] Integration with version control workflows

Questions

  1. Does Claude Code have built-in checkpointing like Cline or GitHub Copilot?
  2. If not, what's the recommended workflow for managing development states?
  3. Are there plans to add checkpointing features in future releases?

Version

Claude code: 1.0.98 (Claude Code)
