[BUG] "Open in" context-menu submenu instantly closes on hover (Claude for Mac, Code tab)

Open 💬 2 comments Opened Jun 16, 2026 by earp-21

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

In the Claude for Mac desktop app, right-clicking a file in the Code tab opens a context menu. When I hover over the "Open in ▸" item (which has a submenu arrow), the submenu flashes open and then instantly closes — the entire context menu disappears before I can move the cursor onto "Finder" (or any submenu entry).

As a result I cannot open files via this menu at all. It happens with every file, every time.

What Should Happen?

Hovering "Open in ▸" should expand and keep its submenu open so I can move the cursor and select Finder / an app, like a normal macOS submenu. It should not close until I click elsewhere.

Error Messages/Logs

No error output — this is a pure UI/interaction bug, nothing is logged.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open the Claude for Mac desktop app
  2. Go to a project's Code tab containing files
  3. Right-click a file to open the context menu
  4. Move the mouse onto "Open in ▸"
  5. Result: the submenu flashes then immediately disappears (the whole menu closes) before you can reach "Finder"

Notes:

  • Confirmed app-specific: native macOS submenus on the same machine work fine (e.g. Finder right-click → "Open With ▸" stays open normally).
  • Already tried with no effect: updated to the latest version, restarted the Mac, and did a clean uninstall + reinstall (same version 1.12603.1).

Claude Model

None

Is this a regression?

Yes, this worked in a previous version

Last Working Version

Claude Code Version

Claude for Mac 1.12603.1 (3df4fd) — desktop app (bundled Claude Code 2.1.170)

Platform

Anthropic API

Operating System

macOS

Terminal/Shell

Terminal.app (macOS)

Additional Information

This is the Claude for Mac DESKTOP APP (not the CLI in a terminal). The bug is in the Code tab's file right-click context menu.

Environment:

  • Machine: MacBook Air 15-inch (M3, 2024), 24 GB RAM
  • macOS: Tahoe 26.5.1
  • Claude for Mac: 1.12603.1 (3df4fd)

The submenu auto-closes the instant the pointer reaches "Open in", so it can't be selected. Native macOS submenus (Finder's "Open With ▸") work normally on the same machine, so this appears specific to the app's menu rendering.

Screenshots attached:

  1. The Claude context menu showing "Open in ▸"
  2. Finder's "Open With ▸" submenu staying open normally (for comparison)
