[Bug] Claude Cowork fails to start on macOS arm64: Missing Claude Code binary and SSL protocol error
Bug Description
I have been experiencing a persistent issue with Claude Desktop / Cowork on macOS (Apple M2 Pro, arm64) since early June 2026. Every time Claude Desktop starts, it fails with two errors: "Host Claude Code binary not available. Check that the download completed" and "Failed to start Claude's workspace — Request error: net::ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR". As of today June 9, 2026, the issue remains unresolved.
I have reinstalled Claude Desktop multiple times, cleared all caches and app support data, and tested on multiple ISPs in Vietnam — but the result is always the same. The Cowork workspace never starts successfully. I also installed @anthropic-ai/claude-code via npm (version 2.1.165) as a workaround, but Claude Desktop still does not recognize it.
Could you please investigate why Claude Desktop consistently fails to initialize the Cowork workspace on this configuration, and provide a way to manually fix or replace the Claude Code binary so the workspace can start properly? Thank you.
