Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

Im on the max x5 claude plan and for a git commit + push, Claude Opus 4.8 just used 12% of my 5 hour window. The commit was 13 lines added to an .md file.
Something similar happened with tool calls or other git pushes, where claude uses way too much of the 5h token limit. Until yesterday (may 30th) everything worked just fine and I could work for the whole 5 hours without reaching the limit and now it took exactly 25 minutes. Im on the current claude desktop version.

What Should Happen?

It should not use that many token with such few tool/cli calls. and I should be able to work for around 3-5hours not just 25 minutes.
