Feature request: stash current message

I run into this scenario very often: I am typing a long message when I realize I should have ran /clear before typing it. Now I have this huge message that I have to copy and paste from the terminal into nvim and stripping the borders on the left and on the right to paste it back after clear.

It would be fantastical to have a way to stow/stash the current message, type what I need and then recover the in-process message.
