[BUG] Claude Code shows debug info without -d arg

Environment

• Platform (select one):
• [x] Anthropic API
• Claude CLI version: 0.2.53
• Operating System: Macos 15.1.1
• Terminal: Alacritty and Ghostty, any terminal

Bug Description

After the latest update to 0.2.53. Claude Code defaults to debug mode which can't be turned off. I have removed .claude.json file and reinstalled Claude to no avail.

Steps to Reproduce

1. claude update
2. observe debug log when running claude

Expected Behavior

Debug should be off by default.
