[BUG] Rider MCP Server fails to detect installed Claude Code, but does detect Codex, which I've never installed or used

  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

I'm in the process of setting up Claude Code to work with Rider 2026.1.1 using the MCP Server plugin.

The plugin is enabled, and in SettingsToolsMCP Server, I checked Enable MCP Server.

Under Clients Auto-Configuration, it has detected Codex and has a dropdown for Auto-Configure. It's shown as "not configured".

I do not have Codex installed, nor have I ever used it. I do not know why it being detected.

I do have Claude Code installed on my system, and have been using it for a while in Rider through the Terminal plugin. I just haven't used it along with MCP Server, and it is not being detected by the plugin.

I'm assuming I can configure CC manually, but I haven't tried yet.

What Should Happen?

_Claude Code_ should be detected and an Auto-configure option should be provided, as shown in Rider HelpAIMCP Server external client setup section. On the help page, it shows both Claude Desktop and Claude Code as having been auto-detected in the example image.

_Codex_ should not be detected on my system, because I don't have it installed.

Additional Information

NOTE: I have installed the ChatGPT client through the Microsoft Store, which is located at %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\WindowsApps\chatgpt.exe and can be launched from the command line, however it's usually launched through a taskbar or start menu shortcut. It's a Microsoft Store application. This is NOT Codex.
