Summary: Claude in Chrome extension does not connect to Claude Code CLI despite being correctly installed and
authenticated.

Environment:

  • OS: macOS Darwin 25.4.0
  • Claude Code CLI model: claude-sonnet-4-6
  • Chrome extension version: Claude in Chrome (Beta) 1.0.70
  • Extension ID: fcoeoabgfenejglbffodgkkbkcdhcgfn
  • Account: logged in with same email in both Claude Code and the extension

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Install Claude in Chrome extension v1.0.70
  2. Log into claude.ai in the extension with the same account as Claude Code
  3. Call mcp__claude-in-chrome__tabs_context_mcp from Claude Code CLI

Expected: Extension connects and returns tab context

Actual: Returns "Browser extension is not connected" error

Troubleshooting already tried:

  • Full Chrome restart (Cmd+Q + relaunch)
  • Verified extension is enabled in chrome://extensions
  • Verified same account (deadfalkon@gmail.com) is logged in on both sides
  • Closed all other Chrome profiles to eliminate multi-profile conflicts
  • Extension shows "Microphone access granted" and "Your approved sites" in settings — appears otherwise functional

Hope that helps get it resolved quickly!
