Unclear /compact documentation - no context size displayed

Documentation to "Use /compact when context gets large" makes no sense without telling us how to know how big the context is.
I haven't found a command that will show that yet. Maybe since running /compact clears the screen, we are supposed to assume the entire scrollback buffer is the context? If so, that should be documented; if not, a way to see context size should be added.
