Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

After updating to Claude 1.3036.0 (cf521c), build date 2026-04-16T16:17:33.000Z, all Cowork sessions fail immediately with "Claude Code process exited with code 1."
Scope of the failure (cleanly isolated):

Cowork sessions: broken (both new sessions and existing sessions)
Chat (claude.ai / Desktop chat mode): works
Claude Code (standalone, outside Cowork): works

Only the Cowork VM layer is affected.

What Should Happen?

claude coward sessions should work

Steps to Reproduce

Reproduction:

Launch Claude Desktop on 1.3036.0 (cf521c)
Start a new Cowork session (any prompt, any working directory)
Session immediately fails with "Claude Code process exited with code 1"

Also confirmed by opening an unrelated existing Cowork session from prior to the update — same error.

What I tried:

Fully quit and relaunched the app
Started a brand-new Cowork session on a fresh folder (still fails)
Verified chat and Claude Code both work on the same machine
