What's Wrong?

Bug Description

Claude Desktop app hangs and is force-closed by Windows every time I switch between the Chat and Code tabs. Happens in both directions. App becomes unresponsive within ~10 seconds of switching tabs.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Claude Desktop app
  2. Click the Code tab
  3. App hangs within 10 seconds — Windows force-closes it
  4. Reopen app, click Chat tab — crashes again

Environment

  • Claude Desktop version: 1.2773.0 (884b37)
  • OS: Windows 11
  • RAM: 32GB
  • Power plan: High Performance

What I've Tried

  • Full uninstall and reinstall via PowerShell
  • Sign out and back in
  • Disabling Windows Efficiency Mode on Claude processes
  • OneDrive .claude config files set to always keep on device
  • Selecting project folder before hang occurs

Notes

This started after the April 14th 2026 redesign update. Was working before that update.

What Should Happen?

Expected Behavior

Switching between Chat and Code tabs should work seamlessly without the app hanging or closing. Both tabs should remain stable and responsive.

- Multiple "Application Hang" entries coinciding with Chat/Code tab switches
- Universal Print auth failures (0x8086000c) running in background throughout the day

  1. Open Claude Desktop app (v1.2773.0)
  2. Start in the Chat tab — works normally
  3. Click the Code tab at the top of the app
  4. App becomes unresponsive within ~10 seconds
  5. Windows force-closes the app
  6. Reopen the app — it reopens in Code tab
  7. Click the Chat tab
  8. App hangs and is force-closed again
  9. Repeats every single time — 100% reproducible

Additional Information

This issue occurs in the Claude Desktop app GUI, not the CLI. The app hangs when switching between Chat and Code tabs. Event Viewer confirms Application Hang on claude.exe. 100% reproducible every attempt. Started after April 14th 2026 redesign update.
