Problem Statement

Summary
Two related usability gaps in Claude Desktop that affect navigation efficiency and accessibility:

  1. Navigate between conversations in each Desktop tool with keyboard shortcuts and menu choice

There is currently no keyboard shortcut or menu option to move between conversations within a Desktop tool (Chat, Cowork, Code). Being able to step to the previous or next conversation — without reaching for the mouse — is a basic workflow need, especially when cross-referencing information across conversations. This is not the same as history navigation.

  1. Keyboard shortcut visibility and customization in Settings

Currently Claude Desktop only exposes a very limited set of customizable shortcuts. There is no way to see all active keyboard shortcuts in one place or reassign ones that conflict with system shortcuts, other applications, or non-US keyboard layouts.
This is an accessibility issue, not just a localization concern. Examples:

Shortcuts using characters that require a modifier key (e.g. [ or ] on Swedish Apple keyboards require the Option key, making combinations like ⌘[ unreachable as a single chord)
Default shortcuts may conflict with existing user-defined shortcuts in browsers or OS
Users with motor or cognitive accessibility needs benefit greatly from being able to remap shortcuts to comfortable key positions

Proposed Solution

1-A. Add keyboard shortcuts for previous/next conversation within each tool for example Ctrl/Cmd + Arrow up for next conversation in list and Ctrl/Cmd + Arrow down for previous conversation in list.

1-B. Add corresponding menu options (e.g. under a View or Navigate menu) as an accessible alternative to keyboard shortcuts i.e. Next (conversation) Previous (conversation) but separate from history navigation.

  1. Add a full keyboard shortcut overview and remapping UI to Claude Desktop Settings — similar to what other tools are offering for accessibility purpose or just plain convenience.

Use Case Example

Navigating between conversations in a small screen to stay in Claude Desktop would be easier and remove the need to copy sections to other apps to be able to check last conversation result.

Accessibility settings like Keyboards Shortcut adjustments are import for everyone.
