[BUG] Layout clipping in macOS desktop app
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
App version: 1.2581.0 (f10398) 2026-04-14T17:16:40.000Z
macOS version: 13.7.8 (22H730)
There is a fixed-width dead zone between the left sidebar and the main content area that clips the left edge of all content — chat titles, project names, and conversation text. The content centers in the remaining space but its left side is always cut off. The dead zone does not respond to sidebar resizing, window resizing, or any other user action. The only workaround is making the window extremely wide. Restarting the app does not fix it.
Screenshot attached showing the truncated project title ("les Data & Analysis" instead of "Sales Data & Analysis") and clipped chat names in the sidebar history.

What Should Happen?
There should be no "dead zone". It's like an opaque window was placed over the right edge of the left sidebar and extends to the right, blocking any text that is normally shared there.
The display should be normal as it always was.

Update: I've confirmed this bug is display-specific. It appears on my MacBook Pro's built-in Retina display (16-inch, 3072 × 1920) but disappears when I drag the window to an external Samsung LS32A70 (31.5-inch, 3840 × 2160). Screenshots of both attached.
Changing the built-in display's resolution scaling in System Settings had no effect — the bug persists at all scaling options. So this is tied to the display hardware itself, not the user's scaling preference.
This points to a display scaling regression in the latest app update, likely specific to Ventura + certain display configurations. The original report (#48374 ) was from another Ventura user (13.4) and shows the same behavior. That issue has been labeled invalid, but with two independent users on Ventura reproducing the same bug immediately after the latest update, I'd ask the team to reconsider — this is a real regression, not a system configuration problem.
Full hardware and software details in my comment on #48374 .

how i fix this trash?
has anyone heard any fixes for this? it's supremely annoyign and there's no way around it.
It sure is! I don't have a "fix" but when I place the window on my second screen (Samsung 32" 4K) I can get the area to appear again by playing with the width of both the side bar and the whole window, making the latter so narrow that the left side bar disappears, then widening it up again. It's not a fix because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It's like when someone tells you have to jiggle the key just right in order to unlock a door. Really frustrating!
And GitHub labeled this a duplicate of an issue that was labeled invalid itself ("not an Anthropic issue") within hours of it first being posted.
I see many peple have reported this issue and they keep labeling it a duplicate. Does that mean they are not going to work on a real fix?
I have found one workaround for now. If I sign in to Claude on my browser (using Chrome for now), everything works fine, and I have access to Opus 4.7. On the desktop app, Opus 4.7 also isn't available. It's like they stopped supporting OS 13 (Ventura), even though Apple still provides support for it.
I have never had an issue on chrome, only on the desktop app. I am on OS 15.7.5 and I am still seeing the issue.

I'm having the same isue even when i work on regular projects.
I updated the app yesterday as it was showing a new version is available, but the same problem still exists. Does anyone know how these issues are taken care of? Seems like no one is looking at this!
Is anyone from Anthropic interested in serving paying customers?
+1, seeing the same thing in Cowork and Chat after multiple updates. This is inconvenient and slows my workflow, as I need to collapse and expand the sidebar to switch between conversations.

@mansigupta I also updated. Same here.
Keep up the comments, folks. The GitHub-actions bot wrote as a first comment: This issue will be automatically closed as a duplicate in 3 days.
But this issue is still alive because everybody is commenting on it.
Let's hope somebody hears it sometime soon. It really is annoying. I'm using only the cloud for now, but that's not a real solution.
same thing here -- Claude for Mac, version 1.4758.0 (fb266c)

This is making it impossible to work using the desktop app. Please fix, Anthropic!
I just opened Claude desktop this morning after working exclusively with the browser version to avoid this problem, just to see if anything had changed, and the bug seems to have been taken care of. Claude desktop is acting normally again, even with resizing of the entire window and the width of the side bar.
Thanks to whoever fixed this.
Agreed - Thank you for the fix!
Thank you, as mentioned above everything works now!
