Display Current Model and Add a Shortcut for Model Switching

Opus has much stricter usage limits than Sonnet. While it would be ideal to use Opus continuously, in practice, my workflow involves using Sonnet as the primary model and selectively switching to Opus only when necessary.

Currently, there's no way to know which model is active without running the /model command. This is very inconvenient, as I often realize the need to switch models while in the middle of writing a prompt. Furthermore, in plan mode, having to delete the entire prompt just to check or switch the model is also a significant inconvenience.

I believe the following features are essential:

  • Always display the currently active model.
  • A shortcut key to switch between models.
  • Allow setting different default models for "normal mode" and "plan mode." (I understand that model selection has already been implemented for agents and slash commands).

Adding these features would be a great help in managing my usage and costs.

I hope to see these improvements as soon as possible. I am very satisfied with Claude Code, but this issue is a point of friction every time I write a prompt.
