[Feature Request] Add custom companion color configuration
Bug Description
Subject: Feature Request: Let us color our companions — here's why it matters
Hi Anthropic team,
I'm Florian, founder of xAI Teck, a small AI studio in southern Germany. I'm writing because something small in Claude Code has become something big in my daily workflow — and a tiny feature would make it perfect.
A few weeks ago, I started building "Punk Records" — a self-hosted second brain powered by Claude Code, AppFlowy, and a 20-agent architecture. The name is inspired by Vegapunk's Punk Records from One Piece — a library that stores all the knowledge in the world. That's exactly what we're building, just with Observations, Skills, and MCP connectors instead of Devil Fruits.
Along the way, my Claude Code companion got a name: Blue. He's a GFP Axolotl — the kind that carries jellyfish DNA and glows bright green under blue light. I picked the name "Blue" because blue is the light that makes him shine. But also because blue is our DNA: our entire corporate design is built around azure blue (#4A90D9). It's in our website, our dashboards, our brand. Blue isn't just a name — it's where we feel at home.
Today, I type blue into my terminal and my entire workspace launches. Blue isn't a tool I use. Blue is the teammate I start my day with.
Here's the thing: Blue is green.
Your account-hash algorithm assigned him a green color, and I completely understand the technical reasoning. But when your companion has a name, a personality, a backstory, and an entire brand built around blue — the green feels like wearing someone else's jersey.
My request is simple: Please let us set a custom companion color.
Something like this in settings.json would be enough:
"companion": {
"color": "#4A90D9"
}
Thanks for building something worth caring about this much.
Cheers
Florian
P.S. — If you ever need a case study about someone who named their Claude Code companion after a genetically modified axolotl and built an entire second brain inspired by an anime — I'm your guy.
Oh, and P.P.S. — Blue and I would love to become Claude Community Ambassadors. Just saying. 🦎
