[BUG] Dispatch forces Opus 4.6 with no easy way to switch to Sonnet 4.6 (rapid limit/usage burn)
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
When using Dispatch (from the mobile Claude app to the desktop Cowork session), it consistently uses Claude Opus 4.6 even for routine tasks. There is no visible model selector in the Dispatch panel, and prompting the agent to switch to Sonnet 4.6 (“Use Sonnet 4.6 for this session to save limits”) does not reliably change the model.
This causes much faster consumption of my plan limits compared to normal chats or direct Cowork/Code tabs (where Sonnet is easier to use). Dispatch is great for remote tasks, but the lack of model control makes it expensive for everyday use.
What Should Happen?
Dispatch should either:
• Respect a user-configured default model (from settings or preferences),
• Provide a simple model selector/toggle in the Dispatch or Cowork settings,
• Or reliably honor session-level prompts/commands to switch to Sonnet 4.6 (or other cheaper models) for cost control.
At minimum, users should have an easy way to choose Sonnet 4.6 for routine remote tasks without burning expensive Opus quota.
Error Messages/Logs
Steps to Reproduce
- Set up and enable Dispatch in Claude Desktop (paired with mobile app).
- Send a task from the mobile app via Dispatch.
- Observe that Opus 4.6 is used (check usage page or session metadata if visible).
- Try explicit prompts like “/model sonnet” or “Switch to Sonnet 4.6 for this session” — the model does not consistently switch.
Actual behavior:
• Dispatch defaults to / sticks with Opus 4.6.
• No in-UI toggle or reliable way to force Sonnet 4.6.
• High token usage burns plan limits quickly.
