[Feature Request]: One plan file and one task file

Can we get a consistent way to have one file that is the high level plan, and another that is the task list with subtasks, that we can track? It should be automatically updated every time a task/phase is completed so I know what has been completed and what is next without having to keep asking it or look in the random files it generates. I have like 7 plans in my folder currently. I want Claude to not keep creating new random files, and just stick to those two and keep them updated automatically.
