Scroll jumps to top of conversation on new output

Resolved 💬 3 comments Opened Mar 26, 2026 by ElFantasma Closed Mar 30, 2026

Description

When scrolling up to read conversation history, any new output (tool results, assistant messages) causes the scroll position to jump to the top of the conversation instead of staying at the current position or scrolling to the newest output.

This makes it very difficult to review earlier parts of a long conversation while Claude is working.

Expected behavior

Either:

  • Scroll position stays where the user put it (if they scrolled up)
  • Or scroll to the newest output at the bottom

Actual behavior

Scroll jumps to the very beginning (top) of the conversation.

Environment

  • macOS Darwin 24.6.0
  • iTerm2 3.6.8
  • Claude Code CLI
