[Bug] Shell command execution timeout or excessive delay

Bug Description
! shell commands take too long to execute.

Most of the time when I run simple commands like ! ls or ! pwd it takes several seconds for claude code to respond.
I don't know if it's doing an LLM call (it shouldn't ) or if it's part of the really crappy decision to use javascript as the terminal.
But could you speed up the shell bang commands?
I'm finding myself running a secondary terminal for shell because CC is so slow.
