What's Wrong?

What's Wrong?
Cowork shows "Virtualization is not available — Claude's workspace requires
Virtual Machine Platform, but the virtualization service isn't responding.
Restart your computer to resolve this." Restarting does not resolve it.

Environment

  • OS: Windows 11 Pro Version 24H2 (OS Build 26100.8037)
  • Claude Desktop: latest version (reinstalled clean)
  • Install type: downloaded from claude.ai/download, run as Administrator

Virtualization Status (all confirmed Enabled via PowerShell)

  • VirtualMachinePlatform: Enabled
  • HypervisorPlatform: Enabled
  • Microsoft-Hyper-V-All: Enabled
  • Microsoft-Hyper-V: Enabled
  • Microsoft-Hyper-V-Tools-All: Enabled
  • Microsoft-Hyper-V-Management-PowerShell: Enabled
  • Microsoft-Hyper-V-Hypervisor: Enabled
  • Microsoft-Hyper-V-Services: Enabled
  • Microsoft-Hyper-V-Management-Clients: Enabled

Steps taken

  1. Enabled all virtualization features via PowerShell as Administrator
  2. Set bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype auto
  3. Restarted multiple times
  4. Performed clean reinstall of Claude Desktop (cleared LocalCache)
  5. Error persists unchanged

Expected behavior
Cowork detects that virtualization is fully enabled and launches the workspace.

Actual behavior
Cowork permanently shows the "Virtualization is not available" error.

What Should Happen?

Cowork should detect that virtualization is fully enabled and successfully launch the workspace VM without errors.
