I think the issue is related to the Opus model. I switched to Haiku, and the error went away.

Chat, are we cooked?

~~Yep, I am also experiencing this issue, however it only seems to apply to subscription based login.~~

~~The API functions correctly when using API/non-subscription login method. It also is probably why the API is reported as healthy, despite having issues for Claude Code, due to some bug they've introduced related to OAuth.~~

Nevermind, on my other profile it was set to Sonnet.

Using Crush, the coding agent from charmbracelet seems to work with Claude Opus 4 selected, using my API key.

sonnet also working

nbros · 4 months ago

I tried switching to Sonnet and it immediately compacted 🤦

Still facing it currently - API Error: 529 {"type":"error","error":{"type":"overloaded_error","message":"Overloaded"},"request_id":"req_011CZA4sWgX5RTnYL5C4yDgt"}

SomeNewGuy · 4 months ago

why was this closed? The issue has been going on for about 12 hours. the 500 is also not the 529 that has been intermittently happening for many since then. Is there something I don't understand about this process? As in why was the 529 overloaded closed and merged with this while this claims it's fixed but clearly by the comments it's not just me that still faces this.

BiscuitStack · 4 months ago

This issue is definitely not resolved.

FabienSalles · 4 months ago

It works on my end if you switch the model. The issue seems to be specific to Opus 4.6.

aslamdoctor · 4 months ago

it's back for me now aswell.

spiky02plateau · 4 months ago

got the same issue

aslamdoctor · 4 months ago

So the issue seems to be with Opus model only, you can check the status here https://status.claude.com/

Feature Suggestion: Route user complaints to SRE alerts

While dealing with repeated 529 errors, I realized that user messages like "why is the server down" or "529 again" are actually a real-time signal of infrastructure issues — potentially faster than formal monitoring.

A simple NLP classifier on the product side could detect frustration/error-related messages and:

  • Trigger an alert to the SRE Slack channel
  • Auto-create an incident if N similar complaints come in within a short window
  • Cluster by region to identify which infrastructure is affected

User complaints are essentially free, real-time operational data. Would be great to put them to use rather than letting them go to waste.
