[Bug] Auto-compact buffer exceeds context window, causing infinite compaction loop on macOS
Bug Description
Subject: URGENT: Claude Code regression bug #34363 — Max plan unusable on macOS, 3 days no response
Hi Anthropic Support,
I am a Max plan subscriber ($100/mo) and Claude Code has been completely unusable on my macOS machine since upgrading to v2.1.76 (now also broken on v2.1.77).
The issue: The autocompact buffer (232.9k) exceeds the 200k context window, causing an instant infinite compaction loop on every new session. No work can be done.
GitHub issue: https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/issues/34363
Key findings:
- Same account works perfectly on Windows, broken only on macOS
- Clean install (deleted ~/.claude entirely) does not fix it
- CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_1M_CONTEXT=1 does not fix it
- The issue is labeled as bug, has repro, and regression by your team but no engineer has responded in 3 days
- Only workaround is downgrading to v2.1.74
I have client work to deliver and I am paying for a service I cannot use. I need either:
- An actual fix or workaround
- An ETA on when this will be resolved
If I do not hear back, I will be forced to cancel my subscription.
