Voice input transcription quality needs improvement — punctuation errors and reduced accuracy compared to competitors
Resolved 💬 2 comments Opened Mar 16, 2026 by jaydokken2 Closed Apr 13, 2026
The microphone/voice input in Claude Code frequently misplaces punctuation (inserting periods and commas where they don't belong) and struggles to accurately transcribe spoken input. This is a significant usability issue for users who primarily interact with Claude Code via voice.
Current behavior
- Periods and commas are inserted at incorrect positions in transcribed text
- Overall transcription accuracy is noticeably lower than comparable voice interfaces
- The speech interface feels clunky compared to alternatives
Expected behavior
- Accurate punctuation placement that reflects natural speech patterns
- Transcription quality on par with ChatGPT/Codex voice input
- Seamless voice-to-text that accurately captures user intent
Why this matters
Voice input is the primary interface for many users describing what they want to accomplish. Poor transcription forces users to correct errors or re-dictate, breaking the workflow. Given that Claude Code is a terminal-based tool, voice is especially important for conveying complex, multi-sentence instructions without typing.
Environment
- macOS 15 Sequoia
- Claude Code CLI
