[FEATURE] /btw within AskUserQuestion flow

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing requests and this feature hasn't been requested yet
  • [x] This is a single feature request (not multiple features)

Problem Statement

When Claude Code uses the AskUserQuestion tool to interview me, I need to choose between various options for multiple questions. For some questions I need more information to make better decisions. But I don't want to use the Chat about this option, because that would interrupt the AskUserQuestion flow. Also, I don't know if my prior answers are saved already.

Proposed Solution

I would like to have a similar flow like the new /btw feature. Either by changing Chat about this to a side-conversation flow or having an additional /btw option.

I prefer replacing Chat about this to something like Chat about this in a side conversation. Because the existing Chat about this can be already achieved by pressing ESC.

Alternative Solutions

Currently my workaround is starting a new session, pasting the context and asking my question there. Then closing the session and resume the prior AskUserQuestion flow.

Priority

Medium - Would be very helpful

Feature Category

Interactive mode (TUI)

Use Case Example

Start a new session:

  1. 'Brainstorm feature x and interview me with non-obvious questions using AskUserQuestion tool'
  2. Answering the questions
  3. When you get a difficult question you don't have all the context, start a new session to gather the info you need
  4. Come back to the questionnaire
  5. Repeat for each difficult question
  6. Complete the interview
