[BUG] When opening claude in new tab via shortcut, the rest of the screen gets locked
Resolved 💬 3 comments Opened Mar 12, 2026 by sergioyersivillegas Closed Mar 12, 2026
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
When I do cmd+Shift+. and select Open Claude Code in new tab, it locks the rest of the screen. Therefore, if i then open a file, that file is not opened nor in the other free half of the screen (given it is locked) nor in the same one as claude. Therefore, it enforces to split it again and have three tabs
What Should Happen?
When I do cmd+Shift+. and select Open Claude Code in new tab, should open a tab without locking the rest of the screen, such that then, opening other files results in either:
- a different tab from Claude (so two in total, not three due to the lock)
- same tab, just next to it (like whenever you open multiple files in a normal situation)
Error Messages/Logs
Steps to Reproduce
- Make sure VSCode is unlocked
- Open files to verify it doesn't get locked
- Do cmd+Shift+. and select Open Claude Code in new tab
- It should split screen in half (new tab) but the problem is that it locks the other one
Claude Model
None
Is this a regression?
