[Feature Request] Zed IDE integration support

Open 💬 16 comments Opened Mar 9, 2026 by ptrtrg

Summary

Add official Zed IDE integration support for Claude Code, similar to existing VS Code and JetBrains integrations.

Current Behavior

Running /ide in Claude Code terminal shows "No available IDEs detected" when Zed is the active editor. There is no Zed extension available for Claude Code.

Requested Behavior

  • A Claude Code extension for Zed available in the Zed extensions marketplace
  • /ide command detects a running Zed instance and connects to it
  • Features on par with VS Code integration: file context sharing, diff viewing, selection context, diagnostic sharing

Why This Matters

Zed is a modern, high-performance editor built in Rust with a growing developer community. It's especially popular among developers who value speed and minimalism. Many Claude Code users have switched to Zed as their primary editor and currently lack IDE integration.

There is different between true CLI support and Zeds integration. Not all Slash command are surfaced. I personal like using my native terminal. Ampcode CLI integrates with Zed so should you.

https://support.claude.com/en/articles/15036540-use-the-claude-agent-sdk-with-your-claude-plan

Starting June 15, 2026, Claude Agent SDK and claude -p usage no longer counts toward your Claude plan’s usage limits. Your subscription usage limits stay the same and stay reserved for interactive use of Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and Claude.

Does this mean that agentclientprotocol/claude-agent-acp, the only available unofficial agent implementation on Zed IDE, cannot use our subscription usage limits after June 15? I would like to know if there is another integration plan that can leverage the usage limits for such use cases, or if Anthropic is interested in developing an official extension for this purpose.

+1 make it!

Note that it needs to be a proper, real extension, rather than just some wrapper. Even Cursor Agent works better in Zed than the current Claude Code there through ACP. We need the same features as in vscode/cursor of Claude Code: same ui features (options, etc), slash commands, seeing usage, proper caching and compaction, et cetera.

Running claude in the Zed terminal is a horrible experience (which is what Claude code suggested) compared to other integration. Please create a full fleged integration.

+1 please ask Claude code make it!

+1; This is making me consider temporarily switching back to VSCode + Codex for direct coding work.
